Job Description

About the Mahi (Role)

Join our friendly, collaborative interdisciplinary rehabilitation team in Nelson. This full-time role (Monday-Friday) offers meaningful work, professional growth, and flexible hours for the right candidate, including occasional work-from-home options.

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist with broad experience across vocational rehabilitation and community-based services. You will bring clinical expertise, a proactive mindset, and a passion for helping people regain independence and live well. You will work across a diverse range of ACC and private services, including:

  • Wheelchair and seating assessments
  • Housing modifications and support needs assessments
  • Social and education-based needs assessments
  • Training for independence
  • Integrated Care Pathway
  • Stay at Work and Back to Work programmes
  • Workplace assessments, manual handling training, and early intervention

In this role, you will complete assessments and develop personalised, evidence-based plans. You will work with clients in clinic, community, and workplace settings, and collaborate with funders, employers, whānau, and colleagues. You will also participate in MDT meetings, contribute to peer learning, and support service development. Throughout your work, you will be fully supported by the Nelson Clinic Manager and the wider team.

About the Nelson Team

Nelson is known for its sunshine, stunning nature, local wines, and world-famous peanut butter! Our close-knit team includes physiotherapists, occupational therapists, exercise therapists, psychologists, and orthopaedic surgeons.

We’re an active, social group who enjoy team quizzes, catch-ups, challenges, and occasional hikes or drinks. Located in the Nelson CBD, our clinic is just a short stroll from the city centre, the beach, and great coffee and lunch spots.

Desired Skills and Experience

About You

This is a clinical role, so you must hold a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy.

We welcome applications from all experience levels. You will be reliable, proactive, and committed to delivering high-quality, client- and whānau-centred care. ACC experience is preferred but not essential.

  • Strong clinical reasoning and report-writing skills
  • Focus on achieving positive client outcomes

  • Current Annual Practising Certificate (NZ) and Professional Indemnity Insurance
  • Full, clean New Zealand driver’s licence
