Job Description

About the mahi (role)

Join our Palmerston North team and build your career in occupational health and vocational rehabilitation, helping people stay well, manage pain and return safely to work.

This varied role will see you working directly with clients in workplaces and community settings, helping them build confidence, manage their recovery and achieve practical return-to-work goals. You’ll be part of a collaborative network of GPs, specialists, employers and other health professionals, all working together to support meaningful, sustainable outcomes for clients.

New to vocational rehabilitation? That's okay. You don't need previous experience in this area to succeed. We'll provide structured mentoring, training and support to help you develop your skills in occupational health, workplace assessment and vocational rehabilitation.

You will also have the opportunity to work across a range of vocational and community contracts, giving you variety in your day-to-day work and the chance to build a broad range of clinical and rehabilitation skills.

Looking for flexibility? We're open to full-time or part-time arrangements of 3–5 days per week for the right person.

What you'll be doing

No two days will necessarily look the same. You might be:

  • Completing workplace assessments and return-to-work planning.
  • Supporting clients following illness or injury to safely return to work and everyday activities.
  • Providing education, treatment and rehabilitation in workplace and community settings.
  • Working with GPs, specialists, employers and other professionals to coordinate rehabilitation.
  • Managing your own caseload, appointments and clinical documentation.
  • Contributing to a range of vocational and community contracts.

Benefits of joining TBI Health

We value our people and reward your passion and contribution with:

  • Competitive remuneration and bonus structure
  • Work vehicle and mobile phone provided.
  • Flexible working arrangements – complete administration from home
  • Subsidised private health insurance with Southern Cross (must be employed for 20 or more hours to qualify)
  • Birthday leave! (must be employed for 20 or more hours to qualify)
  • Wellbeing allowance is currently valued at $250 if you are employed for 20 hours or more per week or $100 for employees who work under 20 hours per week.
  • Inclusive culture which embraces and celebrates the diversity of its people
  • Attend several training sessions during the year focused on teaching how to incorporate Māori tikanga in your role appropriately.
  • Annual contribution to your career development and further qualifications
  • Reimbursement for Annual Practicing Certificate, Professional Membership and Insurance

Desired Skills and Experience

About You

We're ideally looking for an OT with 2+ years' clinical experience, but we're open to considering clinicians earlier in their careers who demonstrate the right skills, attitude and interest in vocational rehabilitation.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • An interest in vocational, occupational health and/or community rehabilitation.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage your own caseload.
  • A commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
  • An interest in working collaboratively with clients, employers and other health professionals.
  • A current NZ Annual Practising Certificate, full indemnity insurance and professional body membership.
  • A current full, clean NZ driver's licence.
